Boca Juniors Secure Spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup
The Boca Juniors have secured a spot in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which will bring together 32 teams in the United States from June 15th to July 13th next year.
This qualification was guaranteed by their ranking after São Paulo eliminated Nacional-URU in the round of 16 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. On Thursday, Tricolor defeated the Uruguayan team by 2-0 at Morumbis.
In sixth place on the ranking, with 71 points, Boca Juniors could only be surpassed by Nacional, who remained at 57 points with their elimination from São Paulo.
“Congratulations to Club Atletico Boca Juniors for qualifying for the new FIFA Club World Cup. I wish you good luck in the United States in 2025”, wrote FIFA president Gianni Infantino on social media.
Now there are only two spots left for the tournament. One will go to a representative from the host country and another will be granted to the winner of Libertadores.
In total, South America will have six representatives: four Libertadores champions (2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024) and two through ranking. As for champions, three are already defined: Palmeiras, Flamengo and Fluminense respectively.
River Plate is also Argentinean and is still fighting for a title competing in this year’s tournament but regardless they are currently guaranteed through rankings as they cannot be surpassed anymore. If River Plate or any other Brazilian team such as Flamengo or Fluminense win this year’s edition of Libertadores then an extra spot via rankings “opens up”.
Already Qualified Teams:
– Al Ahly (Egypt) – CAF Champions League winner (20/21 &22/23)
– Wydad (Morocco) – CAF Champions League winner (21/22)
– Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia) – AFC Champions League winner
– Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan) – AFC Champions League winner
– Al Ain (United Arab Emirates) – AFC Champions League winner
and more…
Remaining Spots:
If River wins Copa Libertadores; both River plate winners via competition; otherwise ranked higher than that rank would fulfill one spot yet along side others reaching playing games nearer high ranks then so on…
