Didier Deschamps could turn to Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy (28) as he looks for a replacement for Lucas Hernandez (28).
The France national team suffered a serious blow when Hernandez tore his ACL during Paris Saint-Germain’s defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-final. It was déjà vu for the defender who suffered a similar injury which ruled him out of the 2022 World Cup.
However, Le Parisien believes that this injury to the left back could provide a pathway for Mendy to establish himself as Deschamps’ first choice for this summer’s Euros. The fullback has had a successful season with Madrid where he helped the club lift the league trophy for the 36th time and will be a present fixture in the side for the Champions League final in June.
Lucas Digne and Eduardo Camavinga join Ferland Mendy as optionsThere also remains the possibility of Lucas Digne (30) who has had an impressive season with Aston Villa, while Eduardo Camavinga (21) has had previous experience playing in the left-back role – although it would be quite the snub if he were to be selected in this position over his teammate Mendy.
