Former Manchester United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has been hospitalised after suffering from chest pains.
The Argentine spent a night at a clinic in the San Isidro neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. He was due to undergo more tests on Wednesday at a nearby hospital.
Tevez, 40, currently manages Argentine top-flight side Independiente. A statement from the club read: “Our coach, Carlos Tevez, went to the La Trinidad Hospital in San Isidro with chest pain. They carried out the corresponding tests and they were satisfactory. Today he will continue with a series of tests scheduled in advance as part of a general check-up.”
A further statement from Independiente added: “Carlos Tevez will be hospitalised as a precaution until the corresponding tests are completed.” Tevez is set to undergo more testing for the issue.
Local reports in Argentina have suggested that Tevez’s scare is linked to stress but he is yet to make an official comment. Tevez is understood to suffer from high blood pressure and regularly undergoes medical checks.
Independiente are due to train later on Wednesday but it is unclear whether the retired striker will be able to attend. The hospital where Tevez will undergo further testing has been named as the Finochietto Hospital in Buenos Aires.
He had initially sparked fears over his long-term future with Independiente earlier this season. Tevez suspended a press conference following the club’s elimination from a cup competition earlier this month.
Tevez is a Premier League cult hero and Wayne Rooney has regularly hailed the former striker as the footballer he enjoyed playing most with. The pair played together between 2007 and 2009 before the Argentine moved across the city to sign for Man City. Tevez twice won the Premier League with United and added a further title at the Etihad Stadium.

After leaving the Premier League, he went on to play for Juventus, Boca Juniors and Shanghai Shenhua before returning to Boca. He retired in 2021 having also accumulated 76 appearances for his national side.
Since then, he has launched a mangerial career in his home country. Tevez’s first opportunity came with Rosario Central but he left after winning just six out of 24 games in all competitions.
He has been in charge at Independiente since August last year. He has won 13 of his 29 matches so far. The side are back in action on May 12 for a top-flight clash with Talleres Cordoba.
