Defender Benjamin Pavard feels that he has become a better player since joining Inter Milan last summer.
The former Bayern Munich defender spoke to French broadcaster TF1, via FCInterNews.
Pavard made the high-profile move from Bayern to Inter last summer.
The 27-year-old completed the switch right at the end of the transfer window.
Inter had been chasing Pavard for some time. The Frenchman was a player who they had earmarked as the replacement for Milan Skriniar on the right side of their back three.
Negotiations with Bayern were not necessarily easy for the Nerazzurri.
The Bavarians were very reluctant to let go of Pavard.
Even with the former Stuttgart and Lille defender in the final year of his contract and making clear he didn’t want to extend, Bayern felt that Pavard was too important a player to sell.
But in the end, Pavard made his will clear.
The Frenchman forced a transfer to Inter through, whilst the Nerazzurri invested a big transfer fee to bring the 2018 World Cup winner in.
Pavard has played as a right-sided centre-back in the Inter defense.
This role has suited the France international’s style of play to the ground.
Pavard is capable of playing both as a centre-back, and at right-back.
And the wide role in the back three makes use of all the 27-year-old’s capabilities.
Pavard’s pace and man-marking ability have made him a formidable defensive presence in the Inter backline, keeping most of Serie A’s top wingers quiet.
And going forward, the ex-Bayern man has proven that he is more than capable of playing the role of an attacking fullback.
Asked what role he plays at Inter, Pavard replied “I play as the ‘joker’ of the team.”
Then, asked whether he plans to stay at Inter for several seasons, Pavard replied “Yes.”
The Frenchman gave the same answer to the question of whether he feels he’s become a better player at Inter.
Lastly, asked whether he thinks the Nerazzurri will win the Serie A title this season, Pavard once again answered “Yes.”
