Paying tribute to the successful “La Máquina” team of the 1940s, which won four Argentinian titles, River Plate and adidas have revealed the club’s third shirt for 2024.
Introducing a new, progressive look but staying true to tradition can be a difficult task, but adidas have more than lived up to it with River Plate’s new third kit, which arrives in the club’s iconic colours, but presented in a bespoke new aesthetic. And while that new design might seem out of keeping with the club’s usual sash look, it’s still rooted in the history of the side and its past success.
Set to debut in the Argentinian League Cup this Friday when River Plate take on Huracán, the shirt sees a carbon base with red and white graphics. Those graphics come in the form of curved lines, meant to represent the body of the famous locomotive housed at the River museum. That massive train engine symbolises the legendary lineup of the 40s, dubbed la Máquina, and there you find your link to the past.
