Pundit implores Chelsea to take a run at Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano – Bavarian Football Works

Former Arsenal FC defender-turned-pundit William Gallas has one piece of advice for Chelsea FC owner Todd Boehly — acquire Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano.

“Chelsea need a center-back to replace Thiago Silva – Wesley Fofana is quality but he’s so injury prone and his big knee injury hampered his progress completely. Right now, Chelsea’s defenders are all young and they lack a world class defender, so that would be my priority in the summer. I haven’t really thought about it, Dayot Upamecano is good and has been very solid for France at the EUROs so maybe he could be a good option,” Gallas told Gambling Zone. “They need a defender who can read the game and can be a leader, because when you have experience you’ve played so many games and know how to control a match and different situations. If they are young, they have a different profile and with the players they have, they need a leader who can drive them and who can teach them.”

Upamecano’s name has been mentioned on both sides of the transfer fence — some reports indicating that Bayern Munich would be open to selling him, with other saying that the Frenchman might be open to a change.

Whatever the case with those stories, it looks like the Bavarians are planning to move forward together with Upamecano and that new coach Vincent Kompany will take a run at working with the 25-year-old.
