Chelsea are very keen on adding an attacking signing to the six transfers already completed this summer. On Friday, Renato Veiga joined Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Estevao Willian and Tosin Adarabioyo as new signings confirmed in the last few weeks.

With head coach Enzo Maresca having now been officially been at the helm for over a month, the Blues have been linked to multiple marquee signings. The latest of those has seen Athletic Bilbao and Spain ace Nico Williams emerge as a dream option with Alexander Isak of Newcastle as another.

Getting deals over the line for either appears unlikely, however signing Julian Alvarez from Manchester City may have become more feasible. Just a few weeks ago, Chelsea were revealed as the club eyeing a move for the World Cup winner and now a shock update has given the Blues some major transfer hope.

According to El Chiringuito (via the Daily Mail), the Argentinian forward has rejected a deal that would keep him at Man City until 2028. Though it is hardly confirmation he wants to depart the Etihad Stadium, it certainly suggests Alvarez is open to leaving with Chelsea therefore likely to be on red alert.

In his two years under Pep Guardiola, Alvarez has proven to be a versatile attacker, able to fill in during absences to key players such as Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne. His best position definitely appears to be in the central areas, however De Bruyne and Phil Foden often occupy that spot.

At Chelsea though, the 24-year-old could thrive there with his former City teammate Cole Palmer remaining on the right and given license to drift inside as he did throughout all of last season. The form of Nicolas Jackson in the latter stages of the 2023/24 campaign also makes it hard to imagine he doesn’t start the season up top if no new striker is signed.

Mykhailo Mudryk and Raheem Sterling meanwhile, have been locked in a battle to play on the left for some time with neither really stamping their mark. Because of that, Christopher Nkunku should kick off the upcoming campaign in that position after two bright cameos out wide to end the season.

Nkunku may prefer to be deployed centrally, however he is capable of succeeding in that position, with his goal off the bench against Brighton after replacing the injured Mudryk proof of exactly that.
