Marana’s Toby Bourguet and his daughter Rylen, an accomplished athlete who is a Salpointe Catholic graduate, were each part of championship teams in the USA Flag Football Select Bowl at Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles on Friday.
The elder Bourguet coached the Red Team in the 14U Girls competition and Rylen was part of the 20U Womens Blue Team.
Isla Collins of Oro Valley was a member of the 14U Girls Blue Team.
AllSportsTucson.com’s Brittany Bowyerwrote a detailed feature on the Bourguet family in 2022.
Toby Bouguet’s team, comprised mostly of players from Florida, defeated Team White 32-26 in the semifinals and Team Grey 7-0 in the championship.
Rylen Bourguet’s team beat Team Red 29-12 in the semifinals and Team White 19-13 in the championship.
Rylen originally attended Arizona State to play beach volleyball, but she is instead focusing on flag football and a spot with Team USA for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
She went 7-0 in state championship games during her career at Salpointe (Class of 2023) — three in soccer, three in beach volleyball and one in indoor volleyball.
She is a member of the famed Bourguet athletic family that includes football players quarterback Trenton and wide receiver Coben at Arizona State and quarterback Treyson at BYU. Trenton is a Marana graduate and Coben and Treyson are Salpointe alums.
The youngest brothers Kendren and Emeron are going into their freshman year of high school and seventh grade, respectively.
The next step for Rylen in her Olympic dream is to get invited to the 2025 USA National Team trials, where she will be scouted for the Olympics.
