I scouted Albert Gronbaek in December 2023. This season he’s currently the top scorer in the Eliteserien league, as hybrid 8/10. Gronbaek has 8 goals and 2 assists, whilst his total goal contributions for 2024 are 14 goals and 3 assists – including a goal and assist against Besiktas and a brace against Ajax in the Conference League.

I rated him for us as a January signing and he’s only performed better since then.

A progressive midfielder who primarily operates in the half spaces off the left, with an impressive array of key passes and goal scoring ability.

Here’s the report from December:

ALBERT GRONBAEK – 22 – Bodo / Glimt – £7m

Gronbaek has been one of Bodo / Glimt’s starlets this season, being a key player as they once again won the Eliteserien in Norway. His stats this season have been top notch, with 9 goals and 8 assists in the league (as well as a further 7 goals and 2 assists across other comps, including Europe), although the latter could certainly have been double figures had his teammates converted some of the gilt-edged chances that had been presented.

Primarily, Gronbaek is an intelligent, advanced playmaker and goalscorer. He possesses the vision, progressive passing ability and technical acumen to not only beat men and thread balls in the last third, but also take on goal scoring opportunities from outside of the box with regularity. Meaning he is capable of opening up teams looking to play a low block. Leading some scouts to liken his profile to Kevin de Bruyne.

Elaborating a little further on the December report, Gronbaek has a shot conversion rate of 29.63% and shot accuracy of 62.96%, which are both pretty emphatic for a midfielder. Whilst his passing has him at 22 key passes for this current season.

He is a goal scorer and chance creator and furthermore, he’s a more than adept tackler and duel winner. He’s someone who would, imo, be a welcome addition to Leeds United this summer.

The only problem could be the fee. His stock is high and he signed a new 4 year contract in January 2024, so Bodo/Glimt are in a strong position to ask for a decent fee.
