Marcus Rashford is set for a new deal at United with no expected reduction in his fat salary. Other players in the squad are also in line for new contracts as Ten Hag seeks to tie them down.

After spending over €200 million during the summer transfer window, Manchester United is keen to reduce their wage bill. The departure of Cristiano Ronaldo before the World Cup helped the Red Devils, as it removed a massive chunk of money from their wage bill. The club intends to place a salary cap on its players to manage the wage structure.

Manchester United have continued to move up the table and are now in a Champions League position. They are in fourth place, five points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham and the same points as third-placed Newcastle United, but have played a game less. The club intends to reward some of its loyal servants.

United want to tie some players to new contracts after their decent displays this season. The players in line for a new contract include David De Gea, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred and Marcus Rashford. The new salary rule at the club may affect the players, with United ready to make an exception for Rashford.

United to reward some players with new contracts

Marcus Rashford is on the verge of renewing his deal with the Old Trafford side. Rashford has been in solid scoring form this term, with his performance impressing the club. Following their resurgence after a false start at the beginning of the season, United is not keen to let their players leave.

United is reportedly set to offer Rashford a new, improved deal. The forward was on the scoresheet as Manchester United extracted bragging rights over city rivals Manchester City in a hotly contested affair. Despite the controversies that favoured United, they moved to within one point of the defending champions.

According to the Daily Mail, the club chiefs intend to introduce a salary cap at Old Trafford. The new rule would see no player earn more than £200,000 a week. The new structure has been tagged the Ronaldo rule and would affect several players at the club, except for Rashford.

Rashford is currently on a £200,000 weekly salary, but the new deal will see him earn above the stipulated figure. United is ready to break its rule to accommodate the Englishman.

Other affected players

David De Ge is among the players affected by the new rule. He is one of five players earning ver the stipulated figure and is currently negotiating with the club over a reduced salary. Other players in this bracket are Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane.

There are questions about the long-term sustainability of this salary cap. The National Football League (NFL),National Hockey League (NHL),National Basketball Association (NBA),and Major League Baseball (MLB) all have their variations on salary caps. Being Americans involved in sports in the United States, the Glazers are looking to introduce the salary cap at United.
